Filet-o-Fish
Let me be honest with you for a sec;. I never got the appeal of that fish burger at the fast food chain with the golden arches. It always felt like going to a prostitute for a hug; i guess it’s aight but why go there for a hug? A hug needs love so you can definitely get a better one at home. Just like this Fried Fish Sandwich: flaky, juicy, and topped with homemade tartar sauce that takes this dish to a whole new level. A deeper one. Get it? Deeper? ‘Cause it’s a fish. Never mind.
Ingredients
• 500 g white fish fillets (i.e. Cod)
• 150 g plain flour
• 2 eggs, beaten
• 150 g breadcrumbs
• 1 teaspoon paprika
• 1 teaspoon garlic powder
• Salt and pepper, to taste
• Oil, for frying
• 4 sandwich buns
Ingredients Tartare Sauce
100g mayonnaise
1 tablespoon pickles, finely chopped
1/2 tablespoon capers, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
In a bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Set up a breading station with the flour mixture, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs.
Coat each fish fillet in the flour mixture, dip in the eggs, and then roll in breadcrumbs until well-coated.
Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 180°C. Fry the fish fillets in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on a rack.
To assemble, place one of the fried fish filet on the bottom of the bun. Place a slice of cheddar on top of it. Spread tartar sauce on the top half of the bun.
